The BA in International Relations offers the students four tracks with concentrations in Political Science, International Politics, International Political Economy and Diplomacy.The entire batch consists of international students only and is taught in English. The programme comprises two years of foundation studies, with courses on Chinese history, culture and economy and two years of specialized academic study, with courses related to concentration chosen by the student. Our BA English taught programme is jointly taught by UIBE’s School of International Education and School of International Relations.

Upon graduation students are prepared for internationally-focused careers in government, NGOs, and the private sectors, specifically in departments dealing with China or Chinese foreign affairs. During the four years of academic study, students develop the skills they need to understand and take part in an interconnected world: political awareness, economic understanding, cultural competency, and global citizenship. Additionally, they will gain a superior understanding of the Chinese economy and political system.

The curriculum aims at helping students to think critically, clearly and methodologically about the most pressing global economic challenges. SIR faculty and courses help students acquire critical intellectual dispositions and expanded practical and theoretical knowledge - enabling them to think critically, creatively, and independently about important international issues.

4 years. In well-grounded cases, such as following an exchange programme overseas, the B.A.programme could be extended up to 6 years.

Admission

Though the application can also be done through the CSC [provide link], SIR strongly encourages the prospective students to apply directly, through UIBE’s School of International Education.

The prospective candidates will be screened according to their learning performance, motivation for the study of International Relations, leadership qualities and extracurricular activities. Excellent personal and academic qualifications are required. Cultural factors are considered in the evaluation process.

A good command of the English language is mandatory and English proficiency certificates may be required for non-native speakers.

Application

Prospective students willing to apply for SIR’s BA Programme in IR through UIBE’s School of International Education should submit their complete applications before May each year.

Language

The courses are taught entirely in English. For the students willing to study Chinese language, the School of International Education offers a range of language courses which could be followed in parallel with your BA studies.

Credits

The course is divided between two years of foundation studies, managed by UIBE’s School of International Education, and two years of specialization at the School of International Relations. A minimum number of 145 credits are required for your graduation at SIR, out of which a minimum of 79 credits are granted for the international undergraduate general education curriculum, 36 for compulsory courses, 18 for elective courses, 8 for practicum and another 3 credits for the BA thesis.

BA Thesis

The BA Thesis is considered the capstone of the BA programme and should emphasize the candidates’ ability to properly understand and apply the concepts learnt throughout the study programme in the field of International Relations. The thesis will be written in English, contain no less than 5,000 words, submitted during the eight semester before March 1 and defended before the May 10 of the graduation year.
